China will remain India’s most important foreign policy challenge: Pankaj Saran

Image
Former Deputy NSA, Ambassdor Pankaj Saran has warned that China will undoubtedly remain India's most important foreign policy challenge in 2023. “The fact is that normalcy in the relationship with China in 2023 looks difficult because of the situation on the border and the LAC. There is no doubt that China will remain our most important foreign policy challenge in 2023. India can expect continuation of a tough posture by China externally. The return to normalcy is unlikely. We have just seen the recent incident in Tawang. So, we have to be alert, well prepared and realistic about how much we can do with China and be prepared for all eventualities and scenario,’’ Ambassador Saran cautioned during a fortnightly YouTube show ‘Around the world with Pankaj Saran, to ‘Awaz The Voice. Responding to a question, Ambassador Saran who is also the Convenor of Nat Strat, a foreign policy think tank, put the onus on China to restore normalcy in the relationship with India. “The primary responsib

Pakistan: Will Imran Khan succeed in his maneuvers?

Image
JK Tripathi The firebrand founder-leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Imran khan Niazi has once again proved how fast can he make a volte-face by shifting his stands on the demand of fresh elections.  In March last, Khan unsuccessfully tried to create a narrative that PML(N) and PPP combine, in collusion with the “Establishment”, had conspired to dethrone his government with the involvement of the USA and tried to cling to his chair by hook or by crook, though he never substantiated this allegation with any proof whatsoever. However, his maneuvers misfired when the Supreme court of Pakistan ruled against him. News Analysis His next move was en-masse resignation from the National Assembly but resignations of only 11 of PTI’s 149 MNAs were accepted. Following this, he kept on demanding the immediate dissolution of the current National Assembly followed by fresh elections. When this was also not accepted by the ruling coalition, he announced the “Azadi March” from Lahore to Islamaba

‘Hindu Extremism’: the term needs to be denounced by Indian Muslims

Image
Rana Ayyub in one of her tweets in 2016 wrote, “ISIS is attacking Islam and Muslims the world over and the irony is the world calls it Islamic terror. What a SHAME !” Ayyub is not the lone voice. Several academicians, journalists, scholars, and politicians have pointed out the contradictions in using the terms “Islamic Terrorism” or “Islamic Extremism”. Professor Richard Jackson of the University of Otago argues, “Arguably the most important challenge to the overall discourse pertains to the notion of ‘religious terrorism’ as an analytical category and the narratives of the religious foundations of ‘Islamic terrorism’ in particular. In the first instance, as Fred Halliday notes, ‘it is nonsense to seek the causes, as distinct from legitimation, of violence in the texts or traditions of any religion’, because all religions have texts or traditions that allow a violent (or a pacifist) reading….. Similarly, it is a logical fallacy to assume that some shared characteristic among terrorists

Mirza Ghalib 225th Birth Anniversary: Timelessness of the great poet

Image
Shaista Fatima   “Phir Ghalat Kya Hai Ki Humsa Koi Paida Na Hua” , this line translates as “What is wrong then, if there isn’t anybody like me”, while many would take this as an offence, Mirza Ghalib would have proudly answered  “Mai Andaleeb-e Gulshan-e Na Aafrida Hu”  meaning “I am the nightingale of the garden which has not yet been created..”.   This not only is a sneak peek into the legendary Urdu poet’s futuristic mindset but also shows his timelessness.    Today is the great poet's 225th birth anniversary and his poetry makes more sense in today's scenario.  While institutes like Ghalib Academy, Ghalib Institute are holding special programs to honour and remember the great poet, Jawahar Kala Kendra, Rajasthan has come up with  "Ghalib Ka Khayal Aaya",  where Delhi's Pierrot's Troupe performs  Ghalib Aur Kalkatta Mushaira,  a play about Ghalib's visit to the iconic city Kolkata and the only symposium held that had Ghalib's presence.  Special Inte
